I received this reply from Christine - our favorite H-1B recruiter. She
gave me permission to put it in my newsletter.
She has received many heated replies from people who read my original
newsletter or from people that wandered onto the Feedback page. I might
post
some of these letters if I decide to do a Part 3.
According to Christine the people that go to ZaZona.com are unemployed
programmers or bigots. I'm sure glad she didn't call anyone a XENOPHOBE!
Sometimes it is good to hear from people like her because I'm sure 99%
of
the recruiters and 100% of the corporate executives feel the same way
she
does. I think Christine should be given credit that she took the time to
respond even if we don't like what she has to say.

I have received countless emails and have tried to respond to most. You
viewers/readers are some real interesting people. Although it seems as
if
you are attracting mostly those who have been laid off in the IT
industry -
the other half is the hateful, bigoted, dredge of society who think that
only Americans are people and that America is the end all be all of the
universe. So in response to their many emails I would just like to say
that
no one seems to get the point here.
The H1B Visa Program was meant for highly professional, skilled (meaning
a
4-year US Accredited Degree is required) foreign nationals to come the
United States to work TEMPORARILY as long as Americans were not
displaced.
The H1B Visa Program WAS NOT created solely for the IT industry. It was
mostly USED by the IT industry before the Year 2000 when we all thought
the
computers would stop at at the midnight hour. It is DOWN in usage not
up in
the IT industry but is continuing to be used in other industries.
EVERYONE is confusing ILLEGAL immigration with LEGAL immigation. The IT
industry IS abusing the process right now. THEY MUST PAY REQUIRED WAGES
TO
USE THIS PROGRAM AND THEY ARE NOT. But that is not a fault of the
program -
it is the fault of the INS in enforcing their law! It is the fault of
the
companies (mostly foreign national owned) that are abusing it. I just
reported 2 myself last month.
They should NOT be bringing in more IT people - there are enough in the
US.
I would estimate that every 6 of every 10 resumes I get is a foreign
national already in the United States working in IT because so many were
brought in - int he late 90's. So I have to occassionally do H1 Visa
transfers. Because regardless of what people might think, the majority
of
the IT employees who were laid off in the IT industry after Y2K were
foreign
national because there were so many brought in.
You cannot shut an entire program down for one flaw. They need to
increase
enforcement of illegal immigration. They need to close these companies
down
that are breaking the law and underpaying foreign labor. THIS DOES
DISPLACE
AMERICAN WORKERS and that is against the H1B Visa regulations.
I would like to make it VERY CLEAR TO YOUR READERS THAT there are no
foreign
nationals currently working for my company earning under $65,000.00 a
year.
Infact, I even have H1 Visa Workers earning $125,000 annually.
When I cannot fill a position with an American - I need to recruit
abroad.
I am recruiting in some areas where I cannot find a qualified American
willing to work in my area. For example, I placed an ad in a large city
newspaper just last week offering ANYONE who could refer me an
Registered
Nurse who was placed at one of my clientsites in the region a $1000.00
referral fee. I received 2 resumes only. I have over 350 RN positions
that
I need to fill. So shoudl our hosptials, retirement homes, assisted
living
homes and nursing homes all go out of business?
Here is another example, I have a client in TX that needs 250 certified
ship
welders by October of 2002. We cannot find 50 certified welders who are
willing to work in FL on this project at $27 an hour or higher. So
should
our ships go unbuilt?
And finally, the hateful emails that I have received do not solve
anything
except create a more violent society. Hate is what got us where we are
and
we will only continue to get worse if we can't talk through our problems
sensibly and intelligently.
