The newsletter "Rep. Eschoo's 30 Pieces of Silver" inspired Tracy Lyon
and her family to visit a Town Hall meeting with California Rep. Anna
Aschoo.

The meeting was sparsely attended so Tracy had a good opportunity to
ask Eschoo why she continues to support H-1B when so many Californians
can't find work. Only about 25 people attended the meeting and most of
them were senior citizens worried about their Medicare drug coverage.
Some of them were quite angered when they heard what H-1B was. Eschoo
response was to play dumb.

The following report was written by Tracy Lyon.

We went to "Judas" Eshoo's "meeting". Boy, what a crock that was.
However, we went to make a point, and we did. We actually thought that
she would never *dare* to address our requests for "information and
clarification" as to how she stands on H-1B and L-1s now that 33%+ of
her constituency is unemployed either directly or indirectly due to
these programs and the "cheap foreign labor" policies that she's helped
perpetuate.

She sure made a fuss over our kids when we got there, and of course,
they were the only kids in attendance. We made sure to get there
plenty early, since we knew that she would be taking "questions" from
the cards based upon who gets there first, etc. She actually DID read
our questions, and spent almost 25 mins. swerving and ducking our
retorts to her rhetoric, and she seriously avoided eye contact with us
after that.

She portrayed herself to either be REALLY dumb on the issues (which we
know she's not) or that she *personally* isn't responsible for
supporting H-1B (even though we had a copy of the first letter you have
archived on ZaZona where she clearly states she "supports the H-1B
program.")

Of course, she poo-poo'ed the whole thing, and claimed she has heard
"anecdotes" to suggest that companies (like Sun Microsystems) had
replaced American workers with foreign (cheap) labor, but then claimed
that she "can't take just anecdotal evidence to Capitol Hill, that she
needs FACTS and STATISTICS to support her (our) claims. Well of course
we were sitting in the front row, and I stood up and introduced her
"officially" to those "anecdotal victims" and presented "our family" -
myself, my husband and our 2 kids, who are certainly NOT a figment of
anyone's imagination, as there we were, flesh and blood, standing 5
feet away from her.

I also asked her to explain to our 8 yr. old son why it is "legal" for

people who are not citizens or living in our country to come to our
neighborhoods and our local "companies" and take jobs away from his
mother and father. And who then is going to take care of us when we
can't afford to live in our house anymore, and he will be homeless
(these are questions our son has asked, and he was more than willing to
ask them again to her in person, but she wouldn't let him speak). We
also asked WHO was going to take care of us financially, who was going
to pay for our food, housing, clothing and health insurance since we
had no income, and why we couldn't "take back" dollar wise, from the
system, all of the money we've personally paid into the system over the
years (and it is THOUSANDS, believe me) to support ourselves, since our
government and our elected officials seem hell-bent on putting us out
soundly on the street with nowhere to go, and no money to get there, by
taking away our sources of income, and giving OUR jobs to cheaply paid
foreigners who don't pay taxes, and STILL benefit from our social
infrastructure.

Her big magic "answer" was that she was one of the reps. who requested
that the GAO undertake their study "to look into" visa abuses. We
pointed out to her that by the time the GAO gets around to ANYTHING, it
will be WAY TOO LATE for us, and THOUSANDS (if not millions) of others.

She then accused us of being short-sighted, by saying that there is no

single problems or issue which is responsible for our current economy
(we again told her we had pretty compelling evidence to the contrary)
and she then told us, "so send it to me." AND WE WILL. (thanks to you
and the great work you do with ZaZona).

We plan to send her many of the materials and links you have on your
site, more particularly the LCA database link, and point out to her
that it's not the government, BUT PRIVATE CITIZENS who are keeping
track of the information that the government and it's representatives
*should* be collecting and examining but ARE NOT. She would probably
NEVER read it, but we feel absolutely compelled to follow up on her
"request". We did meet a few other individuals there who are faced
with the same problems, but they arrived later, and didn't get their
questions "answered". We told them about ZaZona, and some of the other
sites and organizations, and they wanted to be sent the info. to be
added to the mailing list. So if nothing else, we are gaining
"converts" one or two individuals at a time. These people are from the
very moneyed portion of Eshoo's district, and they were VERY unhappy
about her handling of our questioning. We want to keep the ball
rolling in any way we can.

In closing, I told her to "remember our faces" if she remembers nothing
else about what we had to say, in that she personally has contributed
to our financial ruin, and she will be the one to explain her actions
(and her political immoral bed partners) when the last judgment comes
around (she asked for our "prayers" so I wanted to speak to her
presumed spiritual side). She of course steered way clear of us when
the meeting broke up. My 3 yr. old daughter, however, hugged her legs
and said "bye-bye" as we were leaving (Eshoo had played with her before
the meeting started). I hope she sees our sweet little girl's face
burned in her memory the next time she is schmoozing with her H-1B
cronies on Capitol Hill.
