Thanks to Dawn Teo (http://www.rescueamericanjobs.com/) and Dave Gorak

The editor didn't mention it at the bottom of the article, but like
Damon Scott, I'm a member of the National Association for the
Employment of Americans.

The Arizona Republic has been steadfast in their support for
guest-worker bills and open-border policies. Could this be a turning
point? If you appreciate the fact that they allowed an alternate view,
let them know:

Guest-worker bill is offering indentured servitude, disaster

Nov. 15, 2003 12:00 AM

The Border Security and Immigration Improvement Act of 2003 being
foisted upon the public by Sen. John McCain and Reps. Jim Kolbe and
Jeff Flake will create an H-4 guest-worker visa that guarantees
citizenship to undocumented immigrants after three to six years of
indentured servitude.

Guest workers are dependent on their employer to maintain their legal
visa status, leaving workers no choice but to accept low wages and
lousy work conditions to fulfill their indentured contract.

Flake claims that H-4 is needed to remedy a drastic shortage of
"low-skilled workers" who lack college degrees. Paradoxically, McCain
has said there is a "shortage of skilled workers" with college degrees.
Who do they think they are kidding? These callous politicians rant
about labor shortages while America suffers a massive unemployment
crisis.

The media routinely deny the law of supply-and-demand by ignoring the
fact that salaries for unskilled jobs dropped below poverty levels when
foreign laborers flooded the labor market. Republic cartoonist Steve
Benson epitomized this bias when he portrayed those of us who protested
Mexican President Vicente Fox's visit as a bunch of pot-bellied Bubbas.

Where is the compassion for American citizens who are being pushed and
shoved out of their jobs while corporate executives enrich themselves
by exploiting cheap immigrant labor? Why are we castigated for doing
nothing more than protesting this insanity?

These Arizona politicians pretend they want to reform immigration but
their true intent is to dismantle our border. Their bill is a titanic
job destroyer that would inject millions of immigrants into the U.S.
labor market. Jobs as diverse as farm work to high-tech will be up for
grabs by immigrants from Latin America, Asia and Eastern Europe.

McCain, Flake and Kolbe also claim their bill improves national
security, but do not be fooled by the Orwellian cacophony of the bill's
title. It is a betrayal of our sovereignty.

The largest guest-worker bill in history should be called the "Illegal
Alien and al-Qaida Welcome Act of 2003" because it will lay down a red
carpet for illegal immigrants from all countries, not just Mexico.

Aspiring terrorists won't have trouble entering our country despite
assurances that our government can somehow screen millions of new
visas. Jihadists will get legal visas by setting up sham "Terror Inc."
companies. Their guest workers will be more than willing to take jobs
that citizens refuse, such as suicide bombing.

Only a fool would think our immigration problems would disappear by
giving unlimited numbers of "guest-workers" visas. If the
"one-time-only" amnesty for 3 million illegals in 1986 did not solve
the problem, where is the magic in this new legislation?

Benson cartoon insults protesters

Nov. 13, 2003 12:00 AM

Steve Benson's cartoon last Thursday depicts those Americans who
protested during Vicente Fox's recent visit to the area as stupid,
illiterate and lazy. Instead, it is the cartoon that is insulting and
idiotic.

The guest-worker proposal of Sen. John McCain and Reps. Jim Kolbe and
Jeff Flake will clearly and obviously allow entrance of millions of
illegal aliens into the legal job markets of the United States, and
those jobs now held by illegal aliens will not change but will be
filled by yet another influx of illegal labor.

Just as obviously, these labor flows will pressure millions of
Americans out of employment that they otherwise would have. And it is
not Mexicans who take jobs from Americans, but Congress that takes
Americans' employment opportunities away and has them be given to
persons of foreign citizenship. These visa and guest-worker programs
are what was being protested.

Benson's cartoon is completely false in its depiction of the people who
are working to keep Americans from further massive unemployment. It
does, though, reflect the mentality of a cartoonist who thinks he is
adding to public discourse by penning an outrageous, insulting and
ultimately idiotic ad hominem attack.
