There is a programming position in San Francisco available that is
listed at the "Jobs for Programmers" website, but there is one small
hitch - unless you are an Indian national you don't have a chance to
land this job. The #1 requirement at the top of the ad in large bold
letters: "Only H1 visa holders apply for this post". Make no mistake
about it, if you are a United States citizen they will not hire you and
it doesn't matter what race you are.

According to the website for Abacuss, the company that placed the ad,
their corporate office is in Tamilnadu, India. They claim that their
people work at "the best Fortune 500 companies". Discrimination based
on nationality, age, gender, race, and caste are accepted behavior in
India, but once these companies come to the U.S. they are subject to
our laws. Unfortunately foreign companies get away with blatant
discrimination because our government is very reluctant to go after
foreign companies.

These job ad newsletters tend to raise questions especially from the
newer subscribers about what can be done to stop these companies from
discriminating against American workers. Unfortunately not much can be
done to deter them from discriminatory hiring practices because
"national origin" is not considered a protected class like gender,
race, age, etc. Complaints can be filed to the government to force them
to change the ads, and that's a worthwhile endeavor even though it's
more symbolic that substantive. Go the archive and read these

Job description:
Web based JAVA /MVC/ J2EE and Oracle Client Server Application
development and maintenance. Candidate will work closely with various
other teams and organizations to review and implement changes based on
business requirements. Day to day review and follow-up for issues along
with system monitoring is required. Must be team oriented with ability
to train others as job progresses.

Responsibilities:
* Maintain and enhance enterprise applications using JAVA /JSP Web
interfaces in an Oracle 8/9 database environment.

supervision
* Day to day support and monitoring of all system upgrades and changes,
